Dinner at Dean & Deluca

A deli-cafe situated conveniently in a grocer's / mart filled with rows of confectionaries like jam, mayonnaise,
honey, cheese, meats etc for purchase. We loved Jones the Grocer, a deli with similar concept, hence thought of giving Dean & Deluca a try as well.

This brightly-lit, sparkly-white deli / groceries store is located at 181 Orchard Road #04-23 / 24 Orchard Central Singapore 238896, and the number to connect is 6509 7708.

After passing by rows of hampers and jars of marmalades and honey etc, we found a seat in the pretty little bakery cafe filled with happy looking diners chatting away.

We went to the bar counter and ordered our foods, excitedly awaiting their arrivals. Everything looked delicious, and we wondered how the food would turn out.

While Charliez* had her English Breakfast set and Mango Lassi drink (a yogurt drink originated from India). The platter did not look very appetising, truth be known... the sausages were a little over-grilled. Nonetheless, we decided to give it a try since it was filled up with sausages, scrambled eggs, mushrooms and toast. Taste was rather bland and the sausages were a tad salty. It was just a notch tasteless, falling short of a heary breakfast (albeit being consumed at night as dinner course).

I had a Salmon and Spinach Quiche - had loved the ones at Delifrance, so was wondering if this would turn out tasty too. This was a little bland as well; I could hardly taste the salmon flavor in the mashed up piece of overly-soft cheesey pie with no crispy crust. Yes, it was too soft and lightly-flavored, but the portion was generous. My Vegetable Juice (don't ask me what is inside, I cannot recall. Celery? Green apple?) had more flavours, no kidding.

Disapppointed with my savoury dish, I tried to turn to my dessert for comfort. For someone with sweet tooth, I have low expectations of what constitutes to good desserts, honestly. Hence, had believed that the Raspberry Tart could not go wrong. Look at the criss-crossed waffle-style pastry strips? I am sure it would taste nice. The first bite was rather disbelieving - the entire tart was filled with raspberry jam that was too sweet. The pastry itself was not light with hints of crunch; it was blatantly hard with no fluffiness to it at all.

I ate about half of both the food and we left after browsing the shelves for possible purchases and chit-chat.

We spent around SGD$20.00 per person here. This makes for a hearty, open cafe for drink, a rest after shopping and friends to catch up at.

Stay closely tuned in - the next entry shall be about Dean & Deluca's competitor grocery-store cafe, Jones the Grocer, which I enjoy so much more and have been back at least thrice, bringing different friends around.
