Dinner at Saveur French Restaurant @ Far East Plaza

14 Scotts Road #01-78, Far East Plaza, Singapore 228213
Tel: 6736 1121

When Saveur opened its branch at Bugis (Purvis Street), I've heard all about its offering at very good food at very affordable prices. But the hour-long queues always prevented me from checking the place out, until the opening of its branch at Far East Plaza, which has a healthy amount of patrons but no queue. I have been back three times since, thanks to *Charliez who'd brought me there initially.

"Wine is the tears of angels", according to a certain author whose name eludes me now, but yes, wine I must have. At merely SGD$6.00- SGD$7.00 a glass, there is no reason not to indulge over meals.

Hot teas (SGD$4.00) are by Gryphon and served in a nice cup.

We started with the Mushroom Soup (SGD$4.90) which comes in a frothy, cappuccino style and served in a cup. Rich in dark mushroomy flavor and hot in its serving, this tiny cup of soup is definitely an appetite whetting choice.

The French Onion Soup (SGD$8.90) offers a slightly sweet tint, and the broth is not too thick. Served with a crispy wedge of garlic bread, this pot of soup fills the stomach up well on its own too.

The Duck Salad (SGD5.90) - consists of shredded duck, mesclun with lemon vinaigrette, quail egg, orange segments and cherry tomatoes - all of my favorite ingredients. Prepared in a simple manner with fresh ingredients, this salad is a delicious keeper.

The Nicoise Salad (SGD$9.90) is a beautifully arranged salad comprising of romaine lettuce, homemade tapenade sauce, tuna in oil and haricot vert. *L who had it said it was awesome, and that it tastes as good as it looks.

This Saveur's Pasta (SGD$4.90) is my favorite! Despite its simple ingredients of just chilli oil, finely-chopped kombu, minced pork sauce, chives and sakura ebi, the flavor is just fantastic. It explodes in the mouth in a mixture of spicy and saltiness, with very springy angel hair pasta. One would not believe this delicious pasta goes at this incredible price for sure.

The Chicken Roulade (SGD$9.90) is another fabulous dish here at Saveur's - tender chicken thigh stuffed with buttery rich foie gras infused chicken farce, creamy basmati rice and parmesan sauce. Flavors are aplenty for this dish, and the teeth is treated to a good textures dance as well.

Duck Confit (SGD$10.00)  here is good as well, a good-sized duck leg served crackling crispy on the exterior and tender on the inside. The bed of mashed potato was a lovely complement.

Dessert was Tarte Au Cirton (SGD$9.90) - sable breton, lemon curd, lemon gelee, marshmallow and citrus tuile. This is another lovely delight here - creamy curd with a tart flavor, refreshing after a dinner of heavier flavors.

All in all , we enjoyed Saveur very much. The food and pricing are great, the service is rather efficient and the ambience is a touch of simplistic chic - the perfect spot to totally relax and enjoy a good French / Italian meal or two.
